Riding for the Kids is a group of friends, family, work colleagues and like minded people who, every October, aim to ride in Bicycle Network Victoria’s Bupa Around the Bay in a Day event to raise money for disadvantaged Aussie kids.

We are a completely independent and unaffiliated team and every cent we raise goes directly to The Smith Family to help create a better future for children and young people in need. All costs associated with administering the team are covered by team members.

Team membership is open to anybody who is willing to get on their bike and do some fundraising in conjunction with the Bupa Around the Bay annual cycling event (Australia’s largest mass participation bike ride).

Our objectives are very simple: to have some fun and to raise as much money as possible for disadvantaged Aussie kids!

Although the foundations of the team were laid in 2010, the team first rode under the name Riding for the Kids in 2011, where it finished as the #1 Bupa Around the Bay fundraising team, raising $49,063 for The Smith Family. The team also finished as the #1 fundraising team in 2012, raising $31,567.

Trophy

The Smith Family’s Chief Executive Dr Lisa O’Brien thanked Riding for the Kids participants for their dedication to raising funds so that children could get opportunities and long-term support for their education through The Smith Family.

“The Smith Family appreciates the effort each team member goes through to prepare for the event, cycle many hundreds of kilometres and approach their friends and families to contribute to the fundraising for children in need. All funds raised by this inspiring team will have a direct and lasting impact on Australian children, helping to break the cycle of disadvantage.”

Stephen Kaye, the current captain and founder of the team, would be delighted to answer any questions you may have. You can contact him via e-mail at Stephen.Kaye@ridingforthekids.com.
